My name is Richard Tew. I founded Tew Academy of Irish Dance over 15 years ago and have been teaching all over Texas since. For most of the time we have been open, we have concentrated our classes in the Houston area. I am a registered associate teacher with An Chomhdhail (pronounced An Cogal). They are based out of Dublin, Ireland. We are background checked and have experienced with teaching ages three through adult.

Irish dance classes for kids and adults!

We offer Irish dancing classes for kids and adults, from age 3 and up!

We offer recreational, performance and competition opportunities to our students in a supportive, family-friendly environment.

We have classes in Clear Lake and League City, with locations in downtown Houston to come soon.

Our dancers enjoy many performance opportunities in local venues ranging from community centers to churches, to outdoor stages in the area. We have four performance opportunities in the next six weeks alone! Though performance and competitions are not required, they do help give dancers goals for learning and improve confidence in dancers and help them to learn the importance of giving back to the community. We use our performances as fundraisers to help local charities.

Classes are Saturday’s 8-9 a.m. for kids, Saturday’s 9-12 a.m. for adults and Sunday’s 12-1 p.m. for kids.

Come join our adult ceili (group dancing) classes!

We invite you to our beginner ceili classes. Ceili is the Irish word for group dance. It’s dancing with a partner and interacting with other partners in a group dancing setting. It’s designed for anyone to be able to participate as long as you are in decent physical shape. These classes are for adults 18 years and older! Former Irish dancer?

So you danced for years as a child or as an adult, had to stop but want to get back into it. Maybe you were pushed to much to compete and didn’t like it. Maybe you like expressing your personality through your dance but other schools never let you try.

Come join our performance group! We will teach you the steps, the style and the give you that confidence to show your abilities on stage. We have began setting up area performances that are going to be featured in Houston area venues and churches.

We are different. We treat our dancers like an individual, not just a competitor number.

Our school is proactive in the community, we create opportunities for dancers, we don’t wait around to respond to opportunities others create for us.

Theater/performance technical class offerings for beginners!

If you are interested in what goes on behind the scenes of a theatrical performance such as sound production, lights ect. We are offering a new class for you!

Not everyone wants to learn to dance or act, but they might like the technical side of things: setting up a stage or performance space, running the mic and stereo cables, setting up mics, running a sound board, learning about lighting, etc. If that’s you, we are starting a class you might be interested in.

These classes are for teens (13-19) and are hands on and will offer opportunities for students to help set up and run sound at local performances, gaining valuable experience in the process.

Classes will be based out of the Jet Pac studios (they are not offering the class, they are just the class location) in Clear Lake. Practical classes will also take place at performance venues in the Clear Lake-League City area.

Upcoming events!

Please pass this to anyone you know who wants to join us for free ceili dance classes (dances for couples and groups) starting next Monday evening 6:30-7:30 p.m. for a basics class at Chelsea’s in Clear Lake. No dance experience required but you should be in good physical condition to learn.

We are pleased to announce we are going to be hosting regularly-occurring public performances every six weeks at church venues throughout the Clear Lake-League City-Friendswood area starting in Oct. Our performances will expand into Houston over the next year! Enjoy performances from local dancers, musicians and singers! More information to follow. Coming in early 2023

Happy to announce we will host the first “Rocket City Feis” Saturday, Feb. 18 in Houston (Clear Lake). The date was just approved. Looking forward to it! More specifics will come this weekend. This is an open platform feis, run under the rules of An Chomhdhail. I need volunteers to help make this as successful as possible. Please let me know if you want to help out. Thank you.
